Little Blue Jackal
Niyaa
Purchase this app here: link
Description:
A young jackal is chased into a barrel of indigo ink and turns blue. When he returns to the jungle he is treated like a king. Will they find out who he really is?
Jackals are very resourceful creatures and have no experienced a population decrease like many other African carnivores. They are opportunistic carnivores, they eat what’s left over or in nearby dumpsters. They are very similar to coyotes and are suffering the same fate. Their habitats are depleting forcing them to move into areas more populated by humans. (Tidbits from AWF.org)
This story is one with a moral and I am very fond of story that teaches a lesson. The app has fun facts and a question and answer session that will help to further involve the child into the story. This app has a unique feature that I have yet to see called “Sleep Time”. Basically the app narrates while the illustrations are hidden. It is intended to be used around bed time to help the child drift off to sleep.
Some of the sentences in the story were missing punctuation but that is a minor issue that can be corrected. The art work is beautiful. I think another fun feature would be to provide a coloring page of one of the scenes to allow children to color in the characters of the story. That is not something I see often when reviewing apps and I know that children would like it.
The moral is an important one that we all must learn. No matter what we look like we are always who we really are and altering our appearance won’t change that.

Really cool. Great idea. Well written!
